With an influential and star-studded career spanning more than twenty years, Italian icon and dance music maestro Benny Benassi is one of the most successful and influential record producing DJs of all time.
His springboard to fame came in 2002 thanks to his now-infamous crossover hit “Satisfaction,” considered by many as the birth of the entire electro-house genre. The ground-breaking and truly genre-defining single topped charts all over Europe before making its way across the pond to the airwaves and dancefloors of North America. The following year saw Benny gear up for his debut full-length album, Hypnotica, which among countless other accolades landed him the title of European Border Breaker Award for the most record sales abroad by an Italian artist.
Since then, Benny Benassi has proven time and time again why he is considered one of the industry’s true living legends, headlining the world’s biggest festivals (EDC, Coachella, Tomorrowland and Ultra Music Festival to name a few), and spearheading timeless multi-genre originals and collaborations alike.
In 2008 Benny released his sophomore artist album, Rock ‘n’ Rave, before going on to win a coveted GRAMMY Award for his remix of Public Enemy’s “Bring The Noise”, one of the first recordings ever to combine European electro-house beats with American hip hop vocals, cementing Benny's status as a trailblazing pioneer of the commercial electronic music scene.
Benny Benassi continued his creative hot streak in 2011 with his critically acclaimed third album, Electroman, which included worldwide smash hits “Beautiful People” with Chris Brown and “Cinema” with Gary Go. Once again Benny made history by discovering the young and then-unknown artist, Skrillex, for a remix of “Cinema” together bringing the sonic tidal wave that was dubstep to the American mainstream. Skrillex’s remix of “Cinema” went on to win another GRAMMY Award and sat comfortably among the Top 40 charts for a full four years. Most recently, Benny celebrated the 10th anniversary of “Cinema” with a killer remix from superstar Swedish duo, Galantis.
As Benny’s star continued to rise, he teamed up with Madonna for the production of her MDNA LP, specifically co-writing the single “Girl Gone Wild,” fully cementing Benny’s place as not only one of the scene’s foremost tastemakers, but one of the most trusted studio producers in the world.
In the years to follow Benny Benassi’s explosive growth continued, exemplified by his single “Dance The Pain Away” with John Legend which went on to be a global hit after its live premiere at that year’s Coachella.
In 2013, five years after his previous LP, Benny dropped Danceaholic, teaming up once again with Chris Brown for the lead single and certified summer anthem, “Paradise.” Benny’s list of collaborators is as long as it is storied, including everyone from Lil Yachty, Jeremih, Ne-Yo and T Pain to Serj Tankian from System of a Down and even his fellow dance icon, David Guetta.
In addition to his own lauded originals, Benny has always aimed to position his sound so that it could be introduced to fans from a spectrum of genres. This includes his flurry of high-profile remixes for the likes of Bob Marley & The Wailers, Giorgio Moroder, and The Rolling Stones, amongst a laundry list of others.
2022 saw Benny raise the stakes higher than ever, hitting the clubbing and festival circuit once more and joining forces with the perennial talents of David Guetta for their ripple-inducing remake of “Satisfaction,” a sonic story 20 years in the making. He now enters 2023 riding a wave of musical momentum, following releases like the radio-ready “One More Night” with Bryn Christopher and “Fade To Black” alongside fellow countryman Astrality.
It’s very likely that Benny Benassi was at one point one of your favorite DJ’s favorite DJs– and with good reason. A pioneer, trailblazer, and workhorse all in one, Benny Benassi has helped set the agenda for dance music worldwide for the past 20 years. With gas in the tank, however, the it’s clear that the Italian icon is far from satisfied. -
